What is STEM?
STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. So, naturally, this style of education focuses on teaching students skills and knowledge that are relevant to those subject areas. One aspect that distinguishes STEM from the Common Core curriculum is that it focuses on hands-on learning and innovative problem-solving rather than test-taking and generalized learning for all students.
What is Common Core?
Common Core is a set of academic standards that outline what students should have learned in Math and English by the end of each grade level. These goals are developed for all students and are based on assessments and extensive research of learning styles. A main difference between Common Core and STEM is that Common Core focuses on measurable achievements of students as a whole while STEM emphasizes creative innovation and individual growth.
